ICARE Ophthalmic Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the treatment and care of patients effected by debilitating eyes diseases. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We aspire to develop innovative, clinical treatment options through research and trial studies, while also providing funding for equipment to ocular organizations in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We strive to promote awareness, encourage education through endowment funds and internships, and attempt to build dedicated communities to healthy vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you know there are 285 million people with visual disabilities worldwide? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

39 million of these people are blind, 246 million are visually impaired.<\/span><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of blindness in people over the age of 50. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), AMD is the leading cause of visual impairment in developed nations, including Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An estimated 2.1 million Canadians have some form of AMD; the more serious wet AMD can lead to central vision loss and if left untreated, blindness. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the number of AMD cases increases by eight percent. Diabetes is also largely responsible for blindness, though it is only one fraction of the problem; it is responsible for blinding over 400 Canadians each year. Diabetic retinopathy is the debilitating eye condition that can result in blurred vision, severe vision loss and blindness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 1.5 million Canadians have diabetes, and as the number of Canadians with diabetes increases, so will the potential for developing retinopathy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
